ABOUT DUNAMIS

MEET DUNAMIS COUNSELING AND SUPERVISION PROVIDER

DR. MEAGAN BRUNSON

I am a worshiper of Jesus, a wife and mother, a lover of people, an avid skier, and a coffee drinker. I aspire to live life in accordance with my values and enjoy helping others do the same.

I fell in love with psychology while taking my first psychology course in high school and knew that human behavior and relationships were worthy subjects to devote to learning for the rest of my life.

BECOMING A COUNSELOR

As a graduate of Appalachian State University with a degree in psychology, I knew I wanted to pursue a profession in counseling. My love of people and interest in social dynamics made this career path a great fit.

I earned a Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Richmont Graduate University in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 2006, I began working in community mental health at RHA Behavioral Health in Asheville, NC. There, I became a licensed counselor and in 2009 started working as an out-patient therapist. My clients consisted of adults with severe and persistent mental health concerns. In 2011, I started work on a doctorate degree in Counseling Psychology in Morgantown, West Virginia at West Virginia University. As a doctoral student, I worked as a therapist at WVU's counseling center for two years.

Once a Mountaineer, always a Mountaineer. So, in true form, I accepted a doctoral internship at Appalachian State University bringing my husband and I back to Boone. I worked at the university counseling center as a doctoral intern and later as a staff counselor until taking some time to start a family.

I now serve part-time as the Director of Client Services at The Hope Center and own Dunamis Counseling Services, PLLC, a private counseling practice here in Boone.
